Music performance in Murfreesboro takes two forms: as a site and as an action. Murphy Center, on the MTSU campus, was the largest entertainment venue in Middle Tennessee prior to the opening of Bridgestone Arena. It served as the major performance venue for acts including Elvis Presley, the Judds, U2, Nine Inch Nails, Tina Turner, and Rod Stewart.
Main Street Music venue and Sebastian’s saw local musicians play, especially those on the Spongebath label. The video for Dolly Parton’s “Romeo” was filmed at Main Street Music and also starred big names such as Billy Ray Cyrus and Tanya Tucker.
The Volunteer Jam, featuring many well-known acts, was both performed and recorded live here in Murfreesboro.
